34:8 The Lord spoke to Jeremiah after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people in Jerusalem to grant their slaves their freedom. 34:9 Everyone was supposed to free their male and female Hebrew slaves. No one was supposed to keep a fellow Judean enslaved. 34:10 All the people and their leaders had agreed to this. They had agreed to free their male and female slaves and not keep them enslaved any longer. They originally complied with the covenant and freed them. 34:11 But later they had changed their minds.

You shall not defraud your neighbor, nor rob him; the wages of he who is hired shall not remain with you all night until the morning. [translation by Artscroll]

But [first] I will step forward to contend against you, and I will act as a relentless accuser against those who have no fear of Me: Who practice sorcery, who commit adultery, who swear falsely, who cheat laborers of their hire, and who subvert the cause of the widow, orphan, and stranger, said the LORD of Hosts.

The daughters of Zelophehad, of Manassite family -- son of Hepher son of Gilead son of Machir son of Manasseh son of Joseph -- came forward. The names of the daughters were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the chieftains, and the whole assembly, at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, and they said, "Our father died in the wilderness. He was not one of the faction, Korah's faction, which banded together against God, but died for his own sin; and he has left no sons.

A graceful woman obtains honor; ruthless men obtain wealth. A kindly man benefits himself; a cruel man makes trouble for himself. The wicked person earns illusory wages, but one who sows righteousness has a true reward. Righteousness is a prop of life, but to pursue evil leads to death. People of crooked mind are an abomination to the LORD, but those whose way is blameless please God. Assuredly, the evil person will not escape, but the offspring of the righteous will be safe.

A valorous woman who can find?! Her worth is far beyond that of rubies. Her husband puts his confidence in her, and lacks no good thing. She is good to him, never bad, all the days of her life. She looks for wool and flax, and sets her hand to them with a will. She is like a merchant fleet, bringing her food from afar. She rises while it is still night, and supplies provisions for her household, the daily fare of her maids. She sets her mind on an estate and acquires it; she plants a vineyard by her own labors. She girds herself with strength, and performs her tasks with vigor.

Psalm of David. Adonai, who may sojourn in Your tent, who may dwell on Your holy mountain? One who lives without blame, who does what is just, and in whose heart acknowledges the truth; whose tongue is not given to evil; who has never done harm to their fellow, or borne reproach for their acts toward their neighbor; for whom a contemptible individual is abhorrent, but who honors those who fear Adonai; who stands by their oath even to their own hurt; who has never lent money at interest, or accepted a bribe against the innocent. One who acts thus shall never be shaken.
